Terms of use
Effective October 13, 2026. Beta version. PRA is in beta, and a lawyer hasn't reviewed these pages yet. We'll update them before the public launch and change the date above when we do.
These terms are between you and PRA (“we”) about using this site. By using it, you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use the site.
What PRA is
PRA gathers public records about buildings, explains them in plain language, and shows where each fact came from. Every fact carries a label: Official record (a government source reported it), Derived by PRA (we calculated it and show how), or Community reported (someone submitted it and it hasn't been independently checked). PRA doesn't rate landlords or buildings and doesn't tell you whether to rent.
Not legal, financial or real estate advice
PRA is an information service, not a law firm, a broker or a substitute for a lawyer. Anything PRA says about renters' rights or protections is general information drawn from public records and published rules. It isn't a legal opinion and may be wrong or incomplete. Read more about this.
Accuracy
Government records can be late, out of date, wrong, or matched to the wrong building. We show when each record was retrieved and mark uncertain matches, but we can't promise that any information is accurate, complete or current, and a missing record doesn't mean nothing happened. Check anything important with the original source, which every fact links to.
Corrections
If something looks wrong, use “Report a problem with this record or match” under that record's sources, or our feedback form. During the beta we read every report within a week. A record matched to the wrong building, or a person's name shown wrongly, comes first. When the mistake is ours, we fix it or label it. We can't change government records, but we'll tell you which agency can.
How you may use PRA
Use PRA to research buildings, and share links and PRA's share cards anywhere, including in your own videos and posts, as long as the address, source and date stay on the card. Please don't:
- scrape or bulk-download the site, or get around its limits;
- republish PRA's data in bulk or present it as your own;
- edit a share card to change what it says, or remove its source or date;
- use PRA to harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, or to look up private individuals;
- use PRA to decide whether a person qualifies for housing, credit, a job or insurance (PRA reports on buildings, not people, and isn't a consumer reporting agency);
- interfere with the site's security or operation, or use it to break the law.
What you send us
When you send a report or feedback, you confirm it's accurate as far as you know and doesn't include other people's private information. You let us use it to run and improve PRA, and we may edit or remove submissions. Anything we publish from the community will be labeled Community reported.
Ownership
Public records belong to the public, and we credit each source. PRA's design, text, code, share-card artwork and methods belong to PRA. Mentioning an agency or company doesn't mean it endorses PRA. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Links to other sites, such as listing sites, go to pages we don't control.
No warranty, and limits on liability
PRA is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on PRA. PRA is free; to the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to $100.
Changes and governing law
We may change PRA or these terms and will post updates here with a new date; using PRA after a change means you accept it. We may block access for misuse. New York law governs these terms, and disputes go to the courts in New York County, New York, unless the law requires otherwise.
