Not legal advice

Effective October 13, 2026. Beta version. PRA is in beta, and a lawyer hasn't reviewed these pages yet. We'll update them before the public launch and change the date above when we do.

PRA isn't a law firm and doesn't give legal advice. PRA organizes public records and explains them in plain language.

When PRA mentions renters' rights, questions to ask a landlord or tips about rent, it's general information based on the records we can find and on published rules. It can't account for everything a court or agency would consider, such as your lease, how and when a notice was delivered, or records that aren't public.

Using PRA doesn't create an attorney–client relationship. Laws and thresholds change, and records can be out of date. If you're facing a rent increase, a non-renewal or an eviction, get help from a lawyer, NYS Homes and Community Renewal, or a local tenant organization.

See also our terms of use and how PRA works.

PRA shows public records and how it reads them. It is not legal advice, and it does not rate landlords. Data from NYC Open Data and NYC agencies; PRA is not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of New York.
